Since discovering an affinity with programming and computer science in 2017, I have found myself naturally gravitating towards working with data, with particular interest in insight generation, visualisation and predictive modeling.

I have a good theoretical understanding of machine learning algorithms; my degree included several modules on the topics of linear algebra, numerical analysis and linear programming, and I've since studied the subject intensively through online courses and resources like An Introduction To Statistical Learning (James, Witten, et al).

I've worked on multiple projects of my own and analysed many Kaggle datasets. With each new project, I try to learn a new skill, and my journey so far has given me experience with technologies including SQL querying, NoSQL database structures via MongoDB, the Twitter API and NLP analysis, interactive visualisation libraries, web scraping, cloud computing via AWS and many more.

I know that this is only the tip of the iceberg of data science technologies, but I am keen to expand my repertoire and to improve my existing skill set.

I have a good understanding of theoretical statistics, machine learning algorithms, and data analysis in general. I am proficient in Python, R, and SQL. Currently I am learning how to visualize data in D3.js.

I like using all of these, but most importantly, learning new and interesting approaches, technologies etc. and working on exciting projects. I like to have some freedom when it comes to designing solutions.

The proof is simple and left for an interested reader as an exercise.

R

R is a programming language and environment which is all about crunching numbers. This language is much-used by statisticians, particularly for developing statistical programmes and conducting data analysis. R is especially useful for creating plots which look highly professional and ready for publication. The ability to easily add mathematical formulae and symbols is a particularly strong plus point for many users. This language is free to use and open source, which means it is constantly being innovated with by a community of users. Their developments are support are often readily available to others using R. The language can be used across all UNIX platforms, making it highly accessible.
