Working in a demanding development environment, Andrew is a proficient developer and a highly accomplished communicator; offering a rare and desirable skill set to any employer. He is highly motivated which can be seen by the number of unpaid projects and private work that he has taken on to help grow his skillset. The range of previous roles and desire to absorb knowledge and skills has led Andrew to be able to provide a rounded approach to development, which includes supporting activities that are often overlooked. He is a hard working individual, who works well both with others and alone, has an innate ability to solve problems and meticulous attention to detail. With ten years of development experience he has a proven track record of being able to drop into roles and add value exceptionally early on, providing architectural designs and decision making in his later roles.
I am a passionate and experienced Java developer with a PhD in Unsupervised Machine Learning. Over the years I have worked in Software Development for organisations like Sky, the Welsh NHS and Bangor University. This has included direct employment and in a consultancy basis through my company, Sourcepulp. In the latter capacity I have coordinated two software projects working with the Welsh NHS. I have experience of leading small development teams, both of my own employees and as a lead developer for Infinity. I am a believer in the principles of the Agile manifesto, and not over-complicating them.
I have a lot of experience designing, developing and maintaining modern Java RESTful HAL/JSON APIs built with Spring, deploying them as Docker images on Kubernetes (GKE). I have also worked with Groovy, Scala and C# professionally.
My academic interests are in Change Detection and Machine Learning. The title of my PhD was "Unsupervised Change Detection in Multivariate Streaming Data". I developed general improvements to the process of unsupervised multivariate change detection, which are applicable together within a pipeline. I am the author of several journal papers on this subject, and have acted as a reviewer for:
- Information Sciences - IEEE Transactions on Learning Systems and Neural Networks - IEEE Transactions on Reliability more
Contact Centre Systems Administrator / Junior Front End Developer
My current position at Malvern Group (https://www.malvern.group/ ) is Contact Centre Systems Administrator. The role was newly created when I took it on in December 2016. My primary objective was to take a leading role in a project to replace the existing contact centre systems across the Malvern brands. The existing systems across locations in the UK and aboard were replaced with a single solution using CXengage as the telephony platform and Zendesk used to log all customer interaction via phone, email
I would also be interested in getting back into a Front End Development role. I have had development roles in the past and my current role includes Front End Development. Knowing that I don't current work in development day to day currently, I would be interested in Junior roles to get back into a development role.
